QUESTIONS:

How do I archive e-mail in Outlook?

How do I retrieve archived e-mails?

How can I hide the archived folder?

ANSWER:

You can use Outlook's AutoArchive to back up or delete e-mail items and save them to another location such as your Summit home drive, i.e., the H: drive. By default, archived files will be called archive.pst. This file can be renamed to something more meaningful, such as archiveMay04-May05.pst.

Ways to AutoArchive

There are three ways to archive e-mail using Outlook.

Retrieving Archived E-mails

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Under the File menu choose Open
  3. Under the Open menu choose Outlook Data File….
  4. Browse to the location of your .pst file and click on it.
  5. Click OK.

Files will be displayed in the Personal Folder mailbox if you did not change the name.

Closing The Archived E-mail Folder

You can close the archive so that it does not display on your Folder List.

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Right-click on the archive folder.
  3. Select Close "Archive Folders".

You can also burn your archive to a CD.
