QUESTIONS:

Why do I have issues accessing my e-mail with a Blackberry?

Why are some of the e-mail features not working when I access e-mail with my Blackberry?

ANSWER:

Blackberry requires a proprietary server service in order to properly connect to Mercyhurst's Exchange e-mail system and other e-mail servers. Currently, we cannot support this service. Unfortunately, since we cannot provide this service at this time, we also cannot support use of Blackberry devices for accessing e-mail.

We have tried working with Blackberry users on this issue. We have found that even if we are able to get the device to access the e-mail system, several features may not work properly, such as deleting e-mails and calendar synchronization.

Specific files and specific versions of those files must exist on the Exchange server and on the Blackberry device. Each Windows update could break your service connection even after the device has successfully connected to the e-mail system.

We have had success with Palm OS devices and Treos, but they required a significant amount of configuration.

If you are considering purchasing a new mobile device that you plan to use to connect to the Mercyhurst e-mail system, please contact Lorraine Frownfelter at ext. 3360.
