NETWORK FAQ 2: The users.mercyhurst.edu web site is no longer available

QUESTIONS:
Why can't I view my users.mercyhurst.edu site?
What are my options now that I can't publish a web site in my WWW folder?
ANSWER:
As of February 27th 2007, the H: drive's WWW folders will no longer be published on the Internet. The WWW folder contents have not been removed or modified in any way; they are simply no longer being published. Those people who published
a web site via their WWW folder are encouraged to choose among the following web site hosting options.
- Free hosting services – Those who wish to have a purely recreational web site, i.e. – for non-academic purposes, may contact the many free Internet web site hosting services. These services include web sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and GeoCities.
- Employment services – Students who want to post their resumes online are encouraged to contact Career Services. They will be able to help you decide the best places to publish your resume online. This may include online employment sites such as Monster.com, HotJobs.com, and USAJOBS.com.
- Academic Server – Faculty, staff, and students may also request space for web sites on the new Academic Server. Visit plato.mercyhurst.edu for more information or request space through the online request form. Web sites hosted on this server are to be of an academic nature, such as for class projects. These sites are monitored for content violations such as copyrighted and inappropriate materials.
