QUESTIONS:
When should I use WebDAV?
When should I map a drive/mount a share?
ANSWER:
The only time files can be accessed on the network by mapping a drive/mounting a share as a student or employee is when the computer being used to access the network files is physically located on campus and is connected to the local area network either via a network cable or through a wireless connection. Mapped drives/mounted shares are not accessible when the computer is not physically located on campus.
WebDAV can access network files regardless of location so long as the computer being used has access to the Internet and WebDAV is enabled for the file location. Mercyhurst allows WebDAV access to home and plato folders for easy remote access to network files.
